- ItemAnthropometric Characteristics of Elite Rhythmic Gymnasts(2016) Arriaza, E.; Rodriguez, C.; Carrasco, C.; Mardones, C.; Niedmann, L.; López Fuenzalida, Antonio EduardoThe main aim of this study was to identify the morphological characteristics, to determine the tendency in the physical structure, differences and similarities according to categories based on age of the Chilean team of Rhythmic Gymnastics. We performed an anthropometric analysis of 60 gymnasts, fractioned by categories: preschoolers and schoolers (n = 11), junior (n = 28) and senior (n = 21). The anthropometric analysis was determined based on the study of the body composition, through pentacompartimental fractionation method (Kerr), somatotype (Heath & Carter) and the body mass index (Quetelet). The results showed significant differences between preschoolers and schoolers and higher categories (junior and senior) in the general anthropometric variables of body mass, height and BMI. Regarding the body composition, we only found significant differences in the percentage of muscle mass between the preschoolers and schoolers when being compared with the other two categories. In the study of somatotype, the prevalence of ectomorphic categorization was only found in the preschoolers and schoolers (meso-ectomorph), while in the junior category a mesomorph-ectomorph somatotype was observed and a central type in the senior category. We conclude that the morphology of the selected Chilean Rhythmic gymnastics depends on the category, as observed in the anthropometric characteristics related to the body composition and somatotype. Therefore, this factor is not useful in establishing a clearer tendency in the morph structure for this sport at a national level.

W.We present the results of searches for gravitational waves from a large selection of pulsars using data from the most recent science runs (S6, VSR2 and VSR4) of the initial generation of interferometric gravitational wave detectors LIGO (Laser Interferometric Gravitational-wave Observatory) and Virgo. We do not see evidence for gravitational wave emission from any of the targeted sources but produce upper limits on the emission amplitude. We highlight the results from seven young pulsars with large spin-down luminosities. We reach within a factor of five of the canonical spin-down limit for all seven of these, whilst for the Crab and Vela pulsars we further surpass their spin-down limits. We present new or updated limits for 172 other pulsars (including both young and millisecond pulsars). Now that the detectors are undergoing major upgrades, and, for completeness, we bring together all of the most up-to-date results from all pulsars searched for during the operations of the first-generation LIGO, Virgo and GEO600 detectors. This gives a total of 195 pulsars including the most recent results described in this paper.

A.; Socorro, F.; Semprum, P.The Latin American Pediatric Nephrology Association (ALANEPE) reports the first regional kidney transplant registry in Latin America. A mean range of 75%, 30% to 100% renal transplant recipients under 21 yr old were included. Out of 20 countries invited to participate, 14 performed renal transplant, 11 had universal financial support from their governments. The centers included: Brazil (9), Argentina (4), Chile (4), Venezuela (3), Mexico (2), and one in: Cuba, Colombia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Ecuador, Honduras, Paraguay and Peru. The registry included 1458 patients, average of 291 per year, 55% male. Mean follow-up 23.4 +/- 17 months; mean age was 11.7 +/- 4.3 yr (1-21), 11% under five yr of age. Etiology: uropathy/ reflux nephropathy 27%, glomerulopathies 24% (included 12% FSGS), hypo/dysplasia (11%), vascular (6%), congenital/hereditary (5%), unknown (19%). Induction therapy: 71% anti-IL2RAb, 13% ATG/TIMO, 14% non-induction. Maintenance therapy: Tacrolimus 64%, Cyclosporine 32%, MMF 54%, MPS 20%, noTORi 96%, steroids 90%, withdrawal or steroid avoidance 10%. Loss of graft 155/1458 (11%), death with functioning graft (3.4%), vascular thrombosis (2.8%), acute rejection (2.8%), recurrence of disease (1%). Forty-eight patients died (3.3%); infection was the main cause 23 (2.1%). Global patient survival rate at one, three, and five yr was 97%, 96%, and 96%. Graft survival rate at one, three, and five yr LRD was 96%, 93% and 89%; for DD 92%, 86% and 76% respectively. Both survival rates were higher in LRD (p < 0.008 and p < 0.001). A pediatric renal transplant study has started, making information available to be shared between the centers and the world.

- ItemM-protein gene-type distribution and hyaluronic acid capsule in group A Streptococcus clinical isolates in Chile: association of emm gene markers with csrR alleles(CAMBRIDGE UNIV PRESS, 2012) Wozniak, A.; Rojas, P.; Rodriguez, C.; Undabarrena, A.; Garate, C.; Riedel, I.; Roman, J. C.; Kalergis, A. M.; Garcia, P.Streptococcus pyogenes causes a variety of infections because of virulence factors such as capsular hyaluronic acid and M protein. The aim of this study was to determine emm types and capsule phenotype in 110 isolates of S. pyogenes from patients with invasive (sterile sites) and non-invasive (mainly pharyngitis) infections in Chile, and the relationship between both virulence factors. The most abundant types found were emm12, emm1, emm4 and emm28 and their distribution was similar to that seen in Latin America and developed countries, but very different from that in Asia and Pacific Island countries. Ten of 16 emm types identified in pharyngeal isolates were found in sterile-site isolates, and three of nine emm types of sterile-site isolates occurred in pharyngeal isolates; three emm subtypes were novel. The amount of hyaluronic acid was significantly higher in sterile-site isolates but did not differ substantially among emm types. Only three isolates were markedly capsulate and two of them had mutations in the csrR gene that codes for a repressor of capsule synthesis genes. We found a non-random association between emm types and csrR gene alleles suggesting that horizontal gene transfer is not freely occurring in the population.
