Instituto de SociologíaPara entender el complejo lugar del género en la violencia en la pareja es necesario ir más allá de los esencialismos y sesgos heteronormativos y tratar con las distintas formas posibles de relaciones. Esta tesis estudia la forma en que los jóvenes de distintos géneros y orientaciones sexuales construyen sus propias narrativas de violencia en la pareja. A través de 38 entrevistas en profundidad a jóvenes entre 21 y 33 años, describo dos principales patrones de narrativas: Las relaciones tóxicas -en donde ninguna persona se identifica como víctima, y las relaciones con víctima y victimario. Argumento que la percepción de un diferencial de poder en su contra es el factor que lleva a las personas a elaborar relatos en donde se posicionen a sí mismas como víctimas. Posteriormente discuto el rol que el concepto de género puede jugar en la teorización sobre violencia en la pareja.
