A study was conducted on the Gauss-Bonnet term in gravitation within the Palatini framework. The study offers a different perspective when compared to the LeviCivita formalism on higher-order curvature terms. The inclusion of the GaussBonnet term allows us to explore its influence on the dynamics of spacetime and its potential contributions to the Einstein-Hilbert action with cosmologicalconstant and a spherically symmetric spacetime. A first-order perturbation analysis was conducted for the case of spherical symmetry, where non-trivial solutions dependent upon the Gauss-Bonnet term were found. On the other hand, in the cosmological case, it was noted that the Gauss-Bonnet term does not contribute towards first order solutions in the perturbation analysis. These results highlightthe potential of the Palatini approach to enrich our understanding of modified gravitational theories. The analysis shows that the Palatini approach to the GaussBonnet term introduces non-trivial modifications to field equations and exhibits the possibility of a symmetry of the Gauss-Bonnet term as Lagrangian density.
