Abstract
In this paper the communicative capacity of grammar in the construction of pedagogical discourse of history is evaluated examining the contribution of adverbs ending in -mente (category), nominalization (construction) and sentence order (taxeme) in the discursive representation of recent history of Chile. To do this, we analyze the role of these factors in the representation of actors, events, processes and circumstances selected in history textbooks to describe the government of Salvador Allende (1970-1973), the coup d'Etat (1973) and the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990). Our concern for textbooks lies in their importance as official instruments of memory, because the interest in these historical periods is related to their important role in the transmission of a traumatic past to new generations. The analysis reveals, first, the potential of the adverb, nominalization and sentence discursive order to produce discursive meanings and, secondly, the construction of historicizing patterns from these capabilities.
