D.Paper I: "RR Lyrae Variables in Globular Clusters and the Second-Parameter Phenomenon" Authors: M. Catelan, A. V. Sweigart, J. Borissova Abstract: We propose to use RR Lyrae variables in globular clusters to probe the origin of the second-parameter phenomenon. Paper II: "New Possible Variables in the Outer-Halo Globular Cluster Palomar 3" Authors: J. Borissova, N. Spassova, M. Catelan, V. D. Ivanov Abstract: We present a list of ten possible variable stars in the globular cluster Pal 3. Seven are new suspected variables. The variability of the RR Lyr candidate reported by Burbidge & Sandage (1958), as well as of the Pop. II Cepheid and RR Lyr from Gratton & Ortolani (1984), are confirmed. Paper III: "On the Production of Bright RR Lyrae Variables in Metal-Rich Globular Clusters" Authors: A. V. Sweigart, M. Catelan Abstract: See astro-ph/9708174....
- ItemVariable Stars in Metal-Rich Globular Clusters: NGC 6304 and NGC 6569(2002) Pritzl, Barton J.; Smith, Horace A.; Catelan, Marcio; Sweigart, Allen V.It has recently become evident that the RR Lyrae in metal-rich globular clusters ([Fe/H]> -1.0) have properties different from those of metal-rich RR Lyrae found in the field. In particular, they have longer periods than field RR Lyrae of similar metallicities, implying that the cluster RR Lyrae are more luminous than their field counterparts. Because RR Lyrae stars are major Population II standard candles, this finding has consequences for the ages of globular clusters and the galactic and extragalactic distance scales. We propose observations with the YALO telescope to obtain B,V CCD photometry of the RR Lyrae in the metal-rich globular clusters NGC 6304 and NGC 6569. These data will be used to obtain accurate periods and light curves for the RR Lyrae and will be compared to those in other systems to determine their relative luminosities. Direct comparisons will also be made to the other metal-rich globular clusters known to contain RR Lyrae.

A.; Williams, R.; Wils, P.; Greaves, J.; Catelan, Marcio; Prieto, J.; Beshore, E. C.; Larson, S. M.; Boattini, A.; Gibbs, A.; Grauer, A.; Hill, R.; Kowalski, R.; Christensen, E.Here we report on historical observations of the pre-Nova source of KT Eri (Nova Eridani 2009). Following the detection of the possible Nova at mag 8.1 by Yamaoka et al. (2009, CBET#2050), we carried out a search of Catalina Sky Survey 0.7m data covering the location of this event. Photometry of the source was found with dates between 2005-01-17 and 2009-11-18 UT. The Nova was clearly seen in outburst in images taken on Nov.

They note that the new object lies 5".4 east and 1".1 north from a galaxy seen in Sloan Digital Sky Survey images with measured redshift z = 0.109; the current luminosity of 2010iw appears too high for it to be a regular supernova associated with this distant galaxy. The host galaxy is thus is likely to be UGC 4570 (at redshift z = 0.0215)....
